While the Eternal Nightmare had a location he needed to get to, he could not resist the temptations his freedom brought. After so long stuck within the nexus fragment, he needed some form of... exercise. So he decided to pay a friendly visit to the Demacians.
By cutting down any he could find. He'd stick within the shadow of a person until they reached a crowded area, then reveal himself with a wicked laugh, slashing through all those his blades would reach. Nocturne would, however, stay away from the center of the city for the most part, should a champion notice all the dead bodies left in his wake.
The wind may carry many things upon its soft caress; birds searching for warmer climates, leaves drifting in the transition of seasons... screams that were stifled as quickly as they sprung from the throats of victims. High upon the fortress walls of central Demacia, an ever vigilant statue shifted ever so slightly.
...a petty thievery? Perhaps...perhaps...
The scream came again, more wrenching and horrible than the last. At this, the statue's eye snapped open with the sound of grinding stone, affixing its gaze upon the city proper. These were not common occurrences that the wind carried tidings of, not in the slightest. With a loud grinding, the gargoyle took flight over the cityscape, intently glancing about at every noise carried through the air. With another series of agonized screams came a more focused direction to follow.
There they were, then, the original sources of the most disturbing sounds. Galio did not even have to descend far to tell that they were indubitably slain; the walls of the alley were practically coated with a glutinous crimson, and entrails adorned the ground around the corpses. There was nothing further to be done for them, and Galio was into the skies again to ponder.
None of the suspects he had in mind were seeming plausible. The Blade's Shadow, wretched coward that he was, was not the type to eviscerate his prey so savagely, and neither was the Sinister Blade. It was doubtful that any Void-born would leave behind corpses, which left one other candidate that would dare to defile Demacia in this fashion.
But then, how does one hunt or track that which only exists in the shadows of the mind...?

he sound of thundering hooves are heard in the distance as the Shadow of war makes his way to the city of Demacia. his initial destination had been Noxus to question the human Talon but he had felt spirits being recklessly slaughtered, and he wasn't the one doing it. The shadow had simply followed the trail of of the dead until he had come to realize the killer was INSIDE the city.
The shadow stood a fair distance outside of the city, unsure of how to get in unnoticed and find the killer, when suddenly an idea hit him. He raised his halberd in the air and called upon the chill of the grave, his flames turning from their blue to a white and bringing the entire flame around him in an aura. With this, he could get into the city and only be seen by the dead and unliving.
He began charging at full speed towards the city, determined that such a brave killer not go unnoticed to the Shadow Isles.

His slaughter now having attracted the attention of many guards, Nocturne would once again take cover with the shadow of a clueless man. Said man in question was fleeing the city, a hastily packed suitcase in his left hand. While his running seemed aimless, he was being guided in a way by Nocturne putting images of dead ends in his head. While the man thought he was escape, the only thing he was accomplish was running in circles around the edge of the city-state.
After having heard reports from one panicked and hysterical guardsmaster that a madman was on the loose, the Prince figured he might as well be the one to apprehend him. Unfortunately the strict and vigorous rulings of Demacia were enough to set those with weak wills and weaker minds either on or tumbling over the edge. The Prince simply chalked it up to another case of some civilian going horribly wrong as he traveled the city streets, a group of soldiers behind him, all vying to prove themselves in front of their Prince.
As he followed the murder sites and listened to the descriptions of the murderer by those who'd watched at a distance, he realized that they were all either mad or going mad. None of them could give a concrete description of the murderer, all acting terrified and even paralyzed with shock. As he watched his countrymen be led off to one of the many infirmaries, he realized with a sickening lump in his stomach that perhaps the Eternal Nightmare had come to Demacia.
Shaking his head, he embarked for the training grounds, in hope that he may find either of the Crownguard siblings to aid him. In the meantime he told the soldiers following him to spread out and warn civilians to return to their homes.

Hecarim had made his way into the city of Demacia under his shroud. Currently there were no civilians out and about. He unshrouded and began to investigate the corpses around the city, his power to call upon the dead was not as great as Mordekaiser but the souls spoke. All of them saying they were cut down by a living shadow, so the creature was Nocturne.
Now the centaur had to think. How could he lure out the shadow? Most of the civilians were secure in their homes at this time. Perhaps he could fine a stray Demacian and use them as bait.
The centaur wandered the city for some time until he came across a man in a panic. He had simply ran past the centaur, minutes later the same man returned in the same paniced state, the look of true fear in his eyes. Clearly he was already broken. The centaur drew his halberd and kept the man in place with it before speaking in his usual harsh ghastly voice.
"Drop the act, Shade. I know you are in this body."

The man would begin flailing about as the halberd impeded his movement, becoming even more frantic. But before he could shout for help, smoke began billowing from his mouth. It slowly wrapped around his head until it was no longer visible, and then Nocturne's eyes appeared over where the man's would be were they visible. Only the Nightmare's eyes seemed to be glaring harder than usual.
"What do you want, Hecarim?"
"All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream."

Hecarim would bring his halberd back to his side upon the shade's eyes being revealed
"Finding the source of the murder of the fleshlings. Their souls call to me, but i am surprised to find it is you of all people. I thought your hatred was for the summoners? Not petty Demacian fools."
(Meant to post earlier but got busy, better late than never.) Galio was in the skies patrolling the city that night. When he happened upon the scenes of the murders he landed near the bodies, seeing if there was a trail he could follow. Shaking his head in grief for those who lost their lives, and vowing not to let their deaths be in vain, the gargoyle took to the skies once again to skies to see if a aerial point of view would help track down the killer. It was then that Galio saw the Shadow of War, Hecarim galloping into the city under his veil. Galio watched him hovering in the skies, pondering to himself as he did.
"What is Hacarim doing in Demacia, and why. Could he be linked to the killings here. I will follow his wake and see where this investigation will take me."
When Hecarim stopped the civilian with his halberd, Galio was seconds from dive bombing the centaur. But then stopped himself as the man spewed smoke from his mouth. The sentinel narrowed his eyes and began his descent. The gargoyle landed behind the man, putting Nocturne between himself and Hecarim, and brought his wings around himself, his stone and metal tail grating against the paved round as it moved back and forth slightly. Glaring at the two he fixed his gaze first at Hecarim and then at Nocturne.
"First I find dead bodies of the citizens that are under my protection, and then I find that there are beings here in Demacia that have no right to be here at all. I demand a explanation for this nonsense at once."

Hecarim slashes his halberd dangerously close to Galio while roaring
"Were you told the tale of the first time i encountered your troops Galio? I cut those foolish Demacians down, all except one. I go wherever death calls me, it called me here so here is where i am."

Before Nocturne could answer the Shadow, Galio appeared as well. Eyes moving back and forth from the centaur to the gargoyle, the Nightmare slowly exited the man's body, which dropped lifelessly to the ground afterwards. Unsheathing his blades, Nocturne drifted back a bit to allow himself a clear view of the two champions. If one were to attack, he'd be prepared. Addressing Galio first, he spoke.
"Tsk tsk, Sentinel. First you fail to protect Durand, now these helpless citizens. It's almost as if you were destined to be a failure."
"All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream."
(Did not refresh before posting and didn't notice your post Nocturne. I will edit here.) Galio did not flinch as the halberd swung close to him and narrowed his eyes at the Shadow of War.
"I heard your tale, Hecarim and you do not frighten me. But the dead that called you here have been slain brutally and without abandon. And they were also people who live in this city, which I have sworn to look over."
The gargoyle crossed his arms as he stood at full height, his wings around him like a cloak.
"My question to you is this, are you allied with the one behind the murders, or is there another reason that you seek out the killer of these men and women? "
He turned his attention to the Nightmare and shook his head gravely.
"I may have failed to protect them, but I will not sit and lament my failures no more. I will move on and fulfill my duty, even if that means putting you down Nocturne and to make you pay for the lives you stole this night."

Hecarim would slam his halberd into the ground with a thundering sound, moments later the souls of those Nocturne had slain would surround the trio. The centaur would pull his halberd out of the ground and bring it back to his side before glaring at Nocturne
"Yes, isn't that right shade? You arranged this massacre for me to reap souls, but now that someone is onto us... They must be removed." The shade would know that Hecarim was lying, but for what? The option to go along with this and take down the Gargoyle would be his

Regarding the situation, it didn't even struck as odd to Poppy that no one seemed to notice her moving towards the scene. Despite her life at the Embassy causing her to often be unable to leave, something of this scale changed things. She looks around at the dead civilians, feeling it to be something.... more than usual.
She follows the path of devastation from one site to the other until she comes across Galio, Hecarim and Nocturne. Of course... the escaped Nightmare and the self-proclaimed "Shadow of War". They would fit the picture. She decides it is best to prepare for anything considering those present and pulls Whomper from her back.
"Greetings Sentinel. Am I correct in the assumption that the Nightmare and 'Shadow of War', as he claims to be, are behind all this... slaughter of innocents?"
She then mumbles under her breath.
"It would fit... attacking defenseless civilians like cowards."

Nocturne glances at Hecarim, giving him as quizzical a look as he could. "The souls are unimportant to me, but if the gargoyle wishes to stop us..." Before he could finish, however, the Iron Ambassador arrived with her infamous hammer at the ready. This would be easy.
Two victims both able to share the same nightmare.
