People of Maelstrom,
It has come to our attention that many of you are holding onto stories that are begging to be told because the characters required for them are not currently portrayed by one of our members. To not have access to the full cast of our characters limits members, in some cases quite unfairly. We believe that being able to actively engage in the developing story of Maelstrom is critical, and that all champions have a role to play. To that end, we'd like to introduce a new solution to help alleviate the inherent issues that we have with champions of lesser popularity: Temporary Champion Claims.
The goal of these claims is to be able to take part in a self-contained story (one thread; meta events will be handled on a case-by-case basis) through the eyes of an unclaimed champion. You may continue to re-apply for as long as the champion remains unclaimed. The list of unclaimed champions is available here: any requests made for claimed champions will be denied.
As with the rest of our site, we would like to maintain a high standard of writing even for champions that are not regularly portrayed. To that end, an application will be required to let us know what it is that you have planned. The application has three major components:
These applications will be reviewed by the admins, and awarded on a case-by-case basis. To apply for a Temporary Champion Claim, please fill out the linked form.
Thank you for your interest in continued quality roleplaying, and we wish you the best of luck! Happy writing,

- Basic information about yourself, and the champion you wish to portray.
- A detailed description of the thread that you intend to take part in. This does not mean that the results must necessarily be predetermined, but we want to know that you've put some effort into thinking about the story you wish to tell.
- A 250 word drabble in the perspective of the champion. We'd like to get an idea of how deeply you interpret the character and how well that interpretation comes across in your writing. This can be on any topic that you'd like.
These applications will be reviewed by the admins, and awarded on a case-by-case basis. To apply for a Temporary Champion Claim, please fill out the linked form.
