The mayor looks up a little, turning back to Poppy. For a moment he sees the young, strong little girl that would always be in tow with her father, sometimes a little dirty and always showing a confident smile. His eyes light up a bit at the memory, and once again he realizes that that little girl still lives on, even through her hardships. She's right, after all. It's no time for him to be losing hope. A small amount of confidence returns to his voice, slowly growing while he speaks.
"You're very right, Poppy. It's not the time to start having doubts now. Our people may be blissfully unaware in some instances, but they're strong inside. They've come together in times of need before. We can't forget that. Er, I can't forget that."

If there is something that I have learned during my years, it is to always trust in yourself, to believe in what you do. It is the last thing my father taught me... even after his passing. To trust in your strength, to not give in to fear. After all... had I done that... I wouldn't be standing here today. I probably would have died in that damned swamp.
Poppy looks down at Whomper, the hammer glowing in her lap slightly as if in response. Somehow, the inanimate weapon had always given her strength, something to believe in. It was something she could probably never explain.
I do wonder sometimes... what would have been if my father had lived through that trip. Would I be where I am today... or would I be a mere smith back here in Bandle? Life takes you in the most unexpected directions, does it not?

Dennison nods, folding his hands over his desk. "As they say, the apple never falls far from the tree. You've certainly picked up some of your father's good traits. Though it's doubtful you'd be serving as our ambassador, you are still you, Poppy, and your father is a part of you as well. In my eyes, you would grow to be a strong, independent woman either way. Perhaps a little more cheerful."
He gives a warm smile to the ambassador, then turns to the window once more. Yes, there is still hope for the city and his people. Poppy is a prime example of what yordles can do in a time of need. With this thought in mind, his doubts slowly trickle away, knowing that if anything foul would come to the city, it would not be the end for them. Simply a new beginning.
