Fiora instantly snapped to attention when her name was called. Her eyes met Jarvan's and she nodded smoothly, understanding. She was to stay behind.
As the Leona and the two guards escorted themselves out, Fiora nodded at them each in turn, politely assuming her role as Demacian envoy again. As the servants led the three away, Fiora's face remained plastered with the polite smile that she had been taught to hold for hours as a child.
But then, as the doors rumbled to a close with a telltale click, the Grand Duelist dropped her facade. Instantly, her attention snapped back to Jarvan IV, an inaudible inhale the only sign of mild tension.

With a silent bow, their guide spoke slow and low, his voice accented much the same as Lady Laurent's. "Miss, it is my honor. You and your friends will surely be pleased with the suite we have prepared. Right this way." He started off down the vaulted hallways of the palace. The stone floors were dark and swirling marble, and the richly embroidered carpets were kept thier steps from echoing into the massive complex. Several turns later they approached a pair of wooden doors with iron bindings. "Your rooms"
He opened them up and stood aside, a smile lifting his mustache as he continued. "I only ask that you trust me when I say that these are the most modest rooms available to guests here. The style is Ionian, as I hope you will enjoy. They also prefer more... simplicity in their accommodations." It was true. The furnishings were plain, but well kept. Lacquered wood with little embellishment dominated the entryway. Two either side they were shown separate sleeping quarters, for the staff or guards of visiting dignitaries. In center, a generous lunch was prepared, with fruits, sandwiches of several kinds, beside both water and wine. Maids stood in the corners of the room, approaching with trays of pastries and tea.
It was only after the doors shut behind them that Jarvan IV breathed a sigh of relief. He motioned to the councilmen and they made their way to the door as well, leaving the three quite alone in the vast room. "Lady Laurent, how are you?" He turned to face Poppy, straightening for a moment with both hands behind his back. "Would you both like some tea? Let's sit somewhere more fitting the three of us." Jarvan IV made his way to one of the entertaining rooms that was set and ready for a small group. He called for tea, which would soon arrive with whatever assorted accompaniments the kitchens chose, and asked them both to sit.

Following Jarvan, Poppy merely states. I can't say I enjoy tea that much, so I must decline that offer. As they arrive she seeks a chair that is accommodated for the size of a yordle and takes a seat, looking at Jarvan with an expression that seems to hide nearly all signs of emotion.
What do you think of them King Jarvan? Obviously a strong people... but are they perhaps too unpredictable? The Rakkor are known to fight any who come their way, would they choose a side?
She glances to Fiora quickly. The noble's personality was quite known to be quite problematic to deal with, but she had been able to keep it in check as the Solari had chosen to come to talk about it. She then turns back to Jarvan, quietly waiting.

'I am just glad to be back 'ome.' Fiora replied pleasantly.
Fiora sighed comfortably as tea was served by maids. She had gone far too long without the simple pleasures the noble had become accustomed to. The tea seemed to invigorate her.
As Poppy proposes her question, Fiora chimed in fluidly. 'Zey should know, being a fighting tribe, zat we are giving zem no small preposition. An alliance wiz Demacia?' the Laurent shrugged carelessly. ''Ow can zey decline?'
Deep inside, Fiora was unnerved by the Solari. During their journey, Leona and her allies never seemed to falter. And once, Fiora met eyes with one of Leona's guards, the female. As their eyes met, Fiora knew that her sheltered lifestyle in the heart of Demacia was completely foreign to the woman. That woman had killed because it was 'kill or be killed' in her environment. Uncomfortably, the Grand Duelist wondered if the guard had thought the same, and had scoffed at the noble's comfort. The Solari would be powerful allies, but would they ally themselves with a country with such a different standard of living and fighting?

Leona nodded to the man who had lead them there in a gesture of thanks before taking several brief glances around the room. They noted with appreciation that the rooms were well kept. The Ionians, however, could likely learn a lesson in simplicity from the Rakkor, Leona remarked to herself. Although it was simplistic, few could compare with them when it came to such a subject. There was no reason to complain, they provided the most simple quarters they had, and that was enough for her. The amount of food offered, however, made her do a double take. It was almost alien to her, living on Mount Targon where scarcity of food was a simple fact of life, to see so large a single meal just for the three of them. Perhaps they were expecting them to eat with visitors? Or was it really all for them? "They may have given us the simplest rooms they have, but they seem to have compensated by giving us the service of the highest of nobility." one of her guards remarked, in a lowered tone and in the Rakkor language so that only his companions would understand. "Silence, Hector. Life is different here. Appreciate at least they have given us the simplest quarters available to them." Leona replied in the same tongue, with a mildly abrasive tone. "Of course." He pressed his right fist to his heart and gave a short bow to her in reply. Having addressed him, Leona began to unfasten the many pouches and bags she had on herself and laid them against the wall in a neat pile. When she had finished, she approached the plate of food and took one of the sandwiches in her still armored hand, looking over the foreign food before her for a moment before taking a bite. Her two guards did the same. Although they remained expressionless for all their actions, their curiosity, or at least unfamiliarity, with their surroundings could be discerned by their infrequent pauses between actions to take in a certain foreign aspect of their surroundings.

Walking through the halls of the palace Shyvana looked at the different paintings that donned the walls. She had been informed that the Radiant Dawn had arrived in Demacia and she was going to talk to the King. The metallic clang that echoed out as she walked closer to the room where Leona was supposed to meet Jarvan IV.
Pushing up the doors she found the room empty, hearing a set of doors closing she looked towards them, thinking that the Defender and the King along with the ambassador had gone in there she moved up to the doors when she heard Jarvan's voice. He was certainly in there so she assumed that Leona was there too, pushing up the doors a couple of seconds after they had been closed Shyvana walked in.
Hearing the voice of Fiora as she talked about the Solari and how they possible couldn't decline the suggestion for an allegiance Shyvana sighed.
"If you knew anything about the Solari and the Rakkor you'd know that they are very fearsome fighters and will decline if they don't think we are worthy." The Half-Dragon spoke as she entered the room.

Their reactions were silently noted by their caterers who attempted to be as unobtrusive as possible. In truth, the food was prepared with more souls in mind, but the Solari had sent only three. Whether they had no servants or officials to send, or simply chose not to send them, was unimportant.
Daylight streamed into the suite through tall slim windows, laying bars of light across the floor. It was by no means dark inside, but not nearly as bright as the cloudless day. A soft cough interrupted the warriors as they settled into their accommodations and unloaded their burdens.
The palace staff waited for until their guests seemed clearly finished before speaking. "If it pleases you we will clear the table now, Miss Leona." More a statement than a question, the room was cleared quickly and the remaining food taken away, leaving only a fresh bouquet of flowers on the center table.
"If you should need anything at all, I shall be right outside." Their guide bowed once more before closing the doors, leaving the three in privacy for some time. ________________________________________________________________________________________
Taking over the closest sitting room, simply set and normally used by the palace guard when on break, the forced the officers to make the long walk upstairs to one of the rooms provided to foreign dignitaries. With an altogether finer substitute, none complained.
They were as used to being redirected as Jarvan IV was making himself home in whatever room of the palace he happened to be in, to the chargin of messengers tasked with bringing him news wherever he could be found in the palace complex. Here, he relaxed and had his tea quietly, listening before speaking.
"I have discussed little of my plans with the Council, so I appreciated your candor in this matter. The Rakkor are not interested in alliances. They are interested in fighting prowess, the Solari, and little else. Where the Solari go, they may follow, not out of respect for an alliance but the preservation and protection of the Solari. Fiora, you've seen more of their society that most, but I expect they have said little of what they think, as they have done historically. They do not value us as they should. Perhaps I can change that."
He took a sip of tea, turning his attention to Poppy. "I believe their unpredictability stems solely from our lack of understanding. We do not know the laws and customs they follow. They are strong, and they are few. Used to being outnumbered. Comfortable at all odds. However, their mountain is not impenetrable. They know little of the world outside it, because few venture there but they are not a secret anymore. The world knows of the Solari, and they cannot stay holed up on their mountain forever. If we make an effort to understand them, we might be the first step they take onto lower ground."
He set down his cup, pressing his back against a chair that seemed a bit too small for him. "Fiora, what do you think of them? Any glimpses past the hard exterior?"
The sudden arrival of Shyvana came before either could reply. She was right, though her deliver left much to be desired in the way of respect. Whether or not Demacia would be considered worthy by the standard of the Rakkor was in question. The standards of the Solari were somewhat more mysterious. "They requested room to train so that they day not be wasted. That alone says something of their standard." He paused, considering. "Shyvana, I want you to be there when they train. Give the order to have one of the courtyards cleared and made available just for our guests. Be there if they need something. If it comes up... you may spar with them."
Post by The Grand Duelist on Mar 26, 2014 15:36:11 GMT -5
Fiora turned coldly to Shyvana, face impassive. To Fiora, the half-dragon looked out of place in the embrace of comfortable chairs and prepared food. She frowned inwardly as Jarvan gave Shyvana instructions to shadow the Solari. Surely the King could find someone better to spar with their guests. The woman would probably just end up burning one of them to a crisp, and that would be the end of any idea of an alliance.
But the Grand Duelist said nothing, tapping her lips idly with a finger as Jarvan finished. When there was a break, she answered his initial question.
'Zey kept their masks of indifference on at all times during zee journey here.' she replied, 'Ironically, zey seem most comfortable when we 'ad a break and zey 'ad time to spar each other. Regardless if eet was intentional or not, zey intimidated zee soldiers.' The Laurent paused for a moment, thinking back. 'Besides zat, zey are like statues waiting to strike. Eet was very 'ard to pinpoint a moment where zey let their guard down.'
Fiora paused again, her discomfort with the Solari's warlike lifestyle evident. 'Zis may be irrelevant, but zey remind me of my father. Zey look at battle like 'im-- eet is a glorious and 'onorable occasion where one can earn respect and dignity.' The Grand Duelist shifted in her seat. 'Perhaps zee way to an alliance is through zat vein.'

Poppy stares at Fiora in silence for a moment after the noble asks how the Solari could decline, sighing at shaking her head. Demacia was a mighty city, but Miss Laurent's arrogance was quite unbearable.
I have to agree with Shyvana on this. If the Solari do not see Demacia as a worthy ally, as one who will be able to stand up for them, they will decline. And considering the amount of skill the Rakkor soldiers that they are used to, it is not easy to impress them.
She silently observes Fiora's response to Jarvan's query. Discomfort. Fiora was obviously unused to the rough lifestyle of a warrior, despite her level of skill her with her signature weapon.
That is the only way to gain their loyalty in my opinion. The Solari after all come from the Rakkor, and if we do not show the amount of strength and honor that they are used to, they will decline alliances. Their mountain has stood the tests of time before, without outsider aid, so why would they need an alliance now?
You will have to be extremely careful and show the strength and honor of Demacia if you wish for any chance of their support King Jarvan.

Shyvana looked at Jarvan and nodded, she did want a chance at fighting one of the Solari warriors. The Half-Dragon didn't know too much about the Rakkor or the Solari, besides the thing that her father taught her when they passed the mountain.
Remembering that she wanted to go up at the top when she first saw it at the age of nine. "Up on that mountain live the Rakkor and the Solari, the former are some of the most fearsome warriors in this world. If you ever meet one be weary, they do not take lightly on intruders." Shyvana's father's voice echoed in her head. She knew how fearsome fighters Pantheon and Leona was.
"I'll go to the Solari Defender now then." She replied to Jarvan's order and bowed.
Turning around and leaving as quickly as she had entered.
Moving through the halls of the palace again she found the Defender's room after a few minutes of walking. Shyvana knocked on the door to the Solari room and opened it like it was the room of no one special and walked in.
"It's been some time, hasn't it, Defender? Shyvana asked after entering.
Post by The Radiant Dawn on Mar 28, 2014 15:01:22 GMT -5
Upon entry, Shyvana would find all eyes looking at her. They had heard her approach. They were in the process of sorting their belongings in their rooms when she came in. Leona was only slightly familiar with her, she had never spoken at any length with her during her time as a champion. She spoke with few of them, and she always remained brief. Such was normal for her. Apparently, however, Shyvana was more familiar with her than Leona was with her. "I...do not believe we have met." To Leona's memory, they had not. She only knew of her because of her status as a League champion.

He watched in silence as Shyvana left, lost in thought. A few moments after the door closed he spoke again. "A show of strength is important, but strength alone is no reason for them to work alongside us. Fiora, I would like you to show yourself at the courtyard Shyvana selects for Solari training space. Watch them. Interfere if necessary." He paused, simply locking Lady Laurent in a cold stare. "Tell her nothing of me sending you. You chose to attend on your own. If she... cannot control herself, you may tell her that I demand her presence immediately." He held for a moment before relaxing, the tension gone. Where strength was concerned, Shyvana was the perfect choice. Diplomacy however might be better served by a cooler head. Shyvana wouldn't understand and however tempting it might be for Fiora to reveal this to her, He knew she wouldn't disobey a direct order.
"A little constancy in our contact with the Solari cannot hurt. They are at least somewhat used to your presence. Poppy, what are your thoughts?"
Post by The Iron Ambassador on Mar 29, 2014 11:45:12 GMT -5
Poppy watches in silence as Shyvana leaves and Jarvan suggests Fiora to watch over the scene outside. She was not certain if it was wise to send those two to watch over the Solari. One has an explosive temper from her dragon blood, and the other can be insufferably cocky.
Not certain what to think. The inhabitants of Mount Rakkor are so different from my kind, that it is hard for me to think of them as allies. They are hostile to outsiders, they consider strength over everything else and relish in combat. If it wasn't for their code of honor, it'd be hard for me to consider them different from Noxians.
Though no clear emotion can be witnessed on the Ambassador's face, it is clear that the mere mention of Noxians presses a switch inside her head. Her gaze becomes less focused, as it seems her mind drifts to a distant memory once more. She regains her focus a moment later, sighing.
They may be stalwart allies, but if they decide that Demacians, or especially yordles, are too soft, too coddled for them, they may become a dangerous enemy. The choice of your representatives may not have been the greatest for this particular alliance due to these reasons, King.
Shyvana's temper may cause a high amount of problems if not in check, and... Lady Laurent here is known to sometimes be somewhat overconfident in herself, to a rather irritating degree.
I feel like the one representative of Demacia who may have been the most prudent choice, would have been Garen. He may not be the wisest or the most social of the representatives available, but he embodies the Demacian ideals to a great degree. He is strong, he is stalwart, he is honorable and loyal to his King.
The Crownguards have earned their position at the side of the Lightshield dynasty through the years for a reason, and considering the Solaris views on the world along with the Rakkor, the captain of the Dauntless Vanguard would have represented the side of Demacia that most fits the Solari.
Post by The Grand Duelist on Mar 29, 2014 21:30:41 GMT -5
Fiora opened her mouth furiously to reply to Poppy's remark but held herself back, choosing instead to fume silently. After all, she assured herself, it was only irritating to those who cannot prove themselves. However, even the Grand Duelist saw logic in choosing a Crownguard as a representative. Garen would be the ideal choice, but his sister would not be too far-fetched as well, provided she didn't alienate the Solari with her...oddities.
'I agree with zee idea of choosing a Crownguard,' the Grand Duelist spoke up, choosing to ignore Poppy's brusque critique. She took a sip from her tea, mind wandering back to the task Jarvan assigned her. It would be interesting to scrutinize the Solari's fighting techniques from afar. She crossed her legs casually, frowning slightly. But Shyvana would be a pain to deal with---so uncouth. With a shrug, she waved the thought away. The half-dragon must understand the delicacy of creating an alliance; she must know how much this potential alliance would mean for Jarvan and Demacia. Fiora had very little trust, if any, to the half-dragon, but she expected that Shyvana would keep her temper in check.
She piped in. 'Are we to assume zee Rakkor will follow wiz zee Solari's lead if zee Solari decide to join forces with Demacia? Zey respect the Solari, but will zey follow based on zee Solari's decision alone?'
Post by Exemplar of Demacia on Mar 30, 2014 16:02:29 GMT -5
"We will make no assumptions." He gave them both a stern look, saying without words that fighting among one another was not to be tolerated. It was to her credit that Fiora let the comment slide, and it was hard to fault Poppy for speaking the truth. He continued, letting the matter lie.
"This is about the Solari. We cannot expect much of the Rakkor. If by some perversion of fate I was meeting with them, I would ask Xin Zhao to represent me. Let us focus on the matter at hand. You are right to think of Garen, but he is unavailable." Hopefully he was having success in the far east, and his cousin would be returned soon. Otherwise, he would have been a perfect choice. As a soldier he could fight edge to edge with Rakkor. Describing him as a career soldier would miss the point entirely. He was loyal, exceedingly honest, mercilessly brave. If anyone could inspire confidence in Demacia, it was Garen.
Xin Zhao would have been Father's first choice. It made sense, but the College of Magic's retinue of expert healers had said little about his condition. Putting more pressure on him now was out of the question, and parading an endless line of Demacia's foremost fighters was not the King's intention. For a moment he thought that even Cordellia's presence would be of use, until the circumstances of her return came back to him. He sipped his tea, right hand going to his temple. There were simply too many problems vying for his attention and not enough time to let them distract him. He paused in silence before speaking, eyes fixed on his cup. "They came to meet with Demacia. Tomorrow they will meet with me, and that will have to be enough."
"Neither of you have asked me why I would pursue diplomacy with the Solari. I appreciate your trust, but you must have questions."
