Leona patiently waited for Shyvana to make her move, carefully taking note of her posture, where she was looking, and which side seemed to be the dominant one. As Shyvana was piecing together her strategy, Leona was piecing together how Shyvana thought and what her likely course of action would be, and how to counter it. She would not attempt to force Shyvana into a position more favorable to her as she circled, largely for the sake of giving off a false impression. Shyvana had an initial advantage of being able to see how she fought while Leona had no such luxury. Nevertheless, one could not learn how one fights so quickly, or through watching alone.
Leona immediately knew of Shyvana's intention when she moved her gauntlet to drag it across the ground. She waited for the precise moment of opportunity before attacking. The moment Shyvana thew it, she acted. Instead of blocking her own vision with her shield, as she was no doubt expected to do, she ducked down and quickly moved to the right, at the same time opening her shield, giving her an opening to attack from. As Shyvana launched her strike, Leona stabbed at her left shoulder, below the collarbone, with the intention of forcing her to remain at a distance and to cut off her attack. Following that, Leona would give not a moment's respite, advancing and quickly jabbing at Shyvana's lower midsection on the left side, with the intention of forcing her to retreat.

The sudden attack from the Solari did put off Shyvana a little, getting forced to turn her torso not to get struck so hard by Leona's blade to the shoulder. Instead the attack didn't hit as hard and merely scratched Shyvana's armor. Again the Half-Dragon was forced to dodge the blade from the Solari, this time seemingly aimed at her stomach.
Taking the opportunity given to her by Leona when she struck at her she engaged again once the blade missed, her left gauntlet moving towards the shield to pry it open and her other Gauntlet she moved towards the blade, aiming to latch onto it with it's fangs. Would the right gauntlet attach to the blade Shyvana would push it down towards the ground.

Instead of letting Shyvana's attacks connect, Leona again pushed the advantage of range on her. She stepped forward with her left foot as Shyvana moved to push her shield off to the side, and shot the edge of her shield forward into Shyvana's shoulder, where the arm meets the torso, to create a barrier that would prevent her left arm from attacking. On the other side, Leona quickly moved her sword into a position level with her head to evade the incoming gauntlet and stabbed hard downwards onto Shyvana's shoulder, angled slightly toward the neck.

Fiora's lip curled as Shyvana initially challenged Leona to a duel. It was with huge effort that she resisted scoffing and rolling her eyes. Of course the half-dragon would make things difficult and throw in a spar to spice things up for her own benefit. Jarvan's instructions echoed in her head, but Fiora stayed still; Shyvana had not gone transformed...yet.
Nevertheless, the Grand Duelist pursed her lips and leaned against a pillar, keeping her eyes on the duel. If there was going to be a duel, she might as well take advantage of it. The duelist blood in her picked up the techniques utilized by both parties, although most of her attention was on the Radiant Dawn. Leona was like an immovable wall, using her shield effectively and her sword as an extension of her own arm.
Her eyes wandered upwards towards the open roof above the pair in front of her. Leona was of the Solari, and Fiora had seen her abilities on the Fields of Justice. She stifled a dark smile. If the fighting did heat up, she was fairly confident Leona would be able to squash any foolish notions underfoot. Fiora chuckled; fried dragon sounded like a delicacy.

Leona was a formidable opponent on the fields of justice, and that she was outside as well. The way Leona used her shield as a weapon surprised Shyvana a bit, making her unable to use her left hand in combat, something that would be a problem, especially now that Leona's blade was coming towards her neck.
However, Shyvana's right hand was free and along with the Gauntlet she could use that as a shield as well or a 'buckler' as the humans called it. Moving her right hand up she felt the sudden weight of Leona's blade against her gauntlet, deciding that Shyvana needed her left arm as well she lifted her right leg and would then use that to try and push Leona back at her waist.

Shyvana's use of her gauntlet as a buckler was a clever move on her part, and was a mild annoyance to Leona. Although her attack was blocked, another opening presented itself. Leona made careful to keep her shield pinned against Shyvana's shoulder to limit her offensive options to only a single side. Leona could feel a slight change in pressure against the shield as Shyvana moved to strike, and confirmed it visually. As the leg kicked forward, she turned her body sideways to avoid the strike, simultaneously circling to the left, giving up some pressure kept on Shyvana's shoulder with her shield. At the same time, she swiftly swung downward with her sword, aiming to strike Shyvana on the left side of her hip.

Perhaps. As long as there are nothing that would require my attention heavily, there is a chance of a talk. But until them, I'll go and rest. I could need some with how busy these days are... while life has not been difficult, the same routine work gets tiring after a while, and with the League summonings basically on halt, there is nothing to break the cycle. Until tomorrow, King Jarvan.
Poppy stands up from the chair, leaning the heavy hammer against her shoulder. Unlike the rest of duty, or her responsibilities as an Ambassador, the weight of the hammer never seemed to affect her. Perhaps it was the memories, perhaps the emotional connection she had to what it represented that kept it from weighing down upon her. It was of no matter, she needed rest.
She walks out of the keep, trying Whomper to the strap her armor always had on the back for carrying it. She takes in a deep breath, and looks up at the sky. The sun was still shining, and the streets were full of citizens, who did not have to worry themselves with making decisions that affect the lives of everyone. They were lucky. Poppy looked back at her childhood in Bandle City fondly these days, without the worries of combat, of politics. All that mattered back then... was the forge, and her father. Perhaps one day, she would be able to return to that simple life. Simple life, for a simple girl.
Sighing, she heads to the streets, and back to the Embassy.

The Half-Dragon noticed the sudden shift in Leona's form, as Leona moved to Shyvana's right. Knowing full well that she'd be too slow to block the incoming strike from Leona's sword Shyvana leaned in towards Leona and pushed against her. Pressing herself closer to Leona the Half-Dragon moved her free arm towards Leona's shield arm, aiming at the joint to force the Defender to bend her arm and thus get free from the shield that blocked her arm.

Leona felt the increase in pressure against her shield as Shyvana pressed into her, but hardly gave so much as a centimeter to the pressure, used to bearing large amounts of frontal force from the many phalanx drills she had done through her life. Leona saw the incoming fist, and had a different plan in mind than allowing Shyvana to free her arm. She quickly circled to the left, still keeping pressure on the shoulder with her shield, and at the same time distancing herself from Shyvana's incoming blow. With her sword arm, she drew back into a stabbing position and thrust her blade toward Shyvana's left shoulder, aiming to stop the strike before it had even reached completion by pressing harshly into the shoulder with the sword point if the strike connected.

Leona was a fierce opponent which Shyvana respected greatly, but she was a bit of a sore loser and would do her best to come out on top. Feeling Leona push against her as she struck towards her neck. "Pull back, force her to move then strike at her side." Shyvana thought and proceeded like that, pulling back as the blade scratched Shyvana's chest plate. The Half-Dragon intended to use Leona's pressure against her by pulling back so suddenly.
As she pulled away the feeling of being able to use her left arm freely again was a relief, and if Leona did as Shyvana expected she'd move in to strike at her side, otherwise she'd back up a bit more to find a different angle to attack from.

The loss of her control over Shyvana's left arm was of no great detriment to Leona. Of course, she had lost a powerful position but she had struck Shyvana twice already, taking none in return. Feeling her retreat, Leona ceased her application of forward pressure and flipped her shield back up into its normal defensive position, facing flatly toward Shyvana with the top held slightly below Leona's eyes so as to not impair vision.
Still maintaining that Shyvana should not be given a moment to plan or recover, Leona wasted no time in closing in once more. Quickly leveling her blade horizontally she struck at Shyvana's neck and upper chest area, extending her arm about three fourths of the way to make the attack. At the last moment, however, she feigned downward to stab at the midsection, still keeping her arm at the same length that would make it impossible for Shyvana to strike at her unless she threw herself onto her sword.

The Exemplar of Demacia. He said goodbye to Poppy, feeling the full weight of his responsibility steady on his shoulders. There were risks and choices still to be made, but he felt safe enough having sent both Shyvana and Fiora to the Solari's training session. He had training of his own to do, and he set himself to it straight away, leaving the meeting room behind for the solace of his personal exercise yard.
He stretched first, readying his mind and body. He practiced first with the sword and then the spear. He practiced the forms of combat, the inescapable futures falling away as the comfortable routine pulled him into focus. Nearly three meters long, his weapon of choice was blur of sharpened metal, striking and spinning, without pause. When he started it was light, and he kept going until it felt heavy in his hands.

Shyvana looked at Leona as she retook her old stance, different ways of attack circled inside Shyvana's head right before she noticed Leona's advance against her. Looking at the way Leona attacked she seemed to attack against her neck with the sword of hers.
The Defender was a tough foe, but Shyvana wasn't going to give up that easily. Something Shyvana had learned was that different foes needed different strategies of attack. This was the case for Leona, she couldn't just charge in against someone so capable with a shield and expect to win.
Shyvana had a personal rule of not using fire against someone when sparring, as it would be an unfair advantage if she could just use fire against those she fought whilst they couldn't retaliate in a similar manner. Leona on the other hand, was the Avatar of the sun, some fire shouldn't be too much of a problem for her.
Sometimes you have to break your own rules, Shyvana thought and moved away from Leona as she came too close. Dodging to the left of Leona the Half-Dragon conjured a small ball of fire in her right gauntlet which she would slam against Leona's shield so the fire would splash against it.

Leona registered the small ball of flame that materialized in Shyvana's hand. It drew Leona's ire, as she had expected a simple fight without the use of powers outside of the strength of one's arm and the cunning of their mind. Regardless, Shyvana had already crossed the line, so Leona saw no reason to not do so herself. She channeled energy into her shield, and let it out as a brief blinding blast of light as Shyvana's fist moved forward. Leona moved her shield so as to interercept Shyvana's arm en route and push it aside, which would render her unable to strike with that arm for the immediate future while the shield was in the way, while simultaneously striking with blinding speed at Shyvana's lower neck from her left side.
Post by The Half-Dragon on May 6, 2014 14:08:16 GMT -5
As Leona lit up her shield Shyvana looked at it, blinding her briefly by it. Again she found herself unable to use her arm, this time the right arm. Her vision was still blurry from the blinding light. But, Leona had brought the shield closer to Shyvana, which was her original plan. What Shyvana did not plan however, was the blinding light and the sword that was aimed at her neck.
To Shyvana's relief though, was that the blade didn't connect to the skin, instead it struck her shoulder quite hard, making it harder for Shyvana to move her left arm as well. She groaned slightly and pulled back her right arm with some struggle before backing off.
"You're a good defender, Leona, I'll give you that." she said and dropped her gauntlets.
