May 3rd
Walking the streets of Noxus was Avena Balthiar. Today she decided to go for a walk as it was a day off for her training routine. She gazed upon the many people who carried their umbrellas. Holding their children's hands as they crossed streets or went to the store for groceries. It started off as a quiet day. She held onto a book about how to improve her skills in quick movement. She looked to the gloomy skies and frowned a bit. It soon began to drizzle in rain. She held her hand up to feel it beginning to rain. She sighed in thought and rushed her way to a locally owned umbrella shop. She purchased an umbrella and open it just before it began to pour. She continued her destination to quieter area of Noxus so she could read her book in silence, despite the noise of the rain fall from the skies and the slight breeze of the wind.
She claims a spot at the cemetery where her father was buried. "Hello father. It been a good month before that announcement I received." She kept the umbrella open as it still was raining. She sat a foot in front of his grave and began to read the book. Even though her father has passed, she still imagined the warm smile he always gave when she was little, showing so much interest to protect herself and the state of Noxus. "Oh father, if only you were so clumsy in your work would you still be here." Her eyes gazed upon his grave before looking back to her book. She finished about fives pages of the book before sighing and closing it and standing up to close the umbrella as it had stopped raining for now. She placed her hand on his tombstone. "I will make you proud father." She said before walking away from the cemetery.

Jay had had a rather hurried day at work. First the generals had loaded a pile of paperwork to the ceiling on his desk, and when he'd finally finished that, they had sent him scurrying about the place, doing little chores here and there. It almost felt more like busywork...things to keep him occupied.
Needless to say, he was keen to get away from it all, but just his luck, it was raining. While he kept a lot of things in his cloak, today his umbrella wasn't among them. It looked like he would have to take a few shortcuts.
He dashed down the street, splashing puddles as he went along and narrowly squeezing in between people. Keeping under the eaves of the crowded city as much as possible, Jay wasn't pleased when he had to cut out to go through the quickest way to his apartment - namely, the graveyard. He didn't like the graveyard under normal circumstances, but recently it had gained more sentiment that he wished to avoid.
But, he figured, if he was going to get home quickly enough he would have to take the shortcut. It was either that or wander for a few hours, trying to go the long way while staying dry. Taking a deep breath, he stepped into the rain and ran for the graveyard.
Jay silently weaved his way through the gravestones...or, at least, silent for him. It was honestly more of a heavy trod, with a few squelches from the patchy grass here and there. He could finally see the exit on the other side when he lost his footing, slipping into the mud with a loud shout. Within moments, he had slid down into Avena's path, covered in mud and sitting right in the gate out of the cemetery. "Ugh...my head..."

Avena stood there looking down at the man before her feet with the umbrella in hand and her book in the other. She wondered why he was in such a hurry as it seemed rather quiet here in the Noxian cemetery today. She stood over him, using the umbrella to block the rain. She leaned down, putting the booking in between the elbow of her right arm and used her left hand to offer him a bit of help. "Are you alright sir?"
Her gaze upon him was that of a curious one. Unsure what to make of this man except try to help him up. She did hope he was a Noxian and not some spy she would have to turn in.

Jay blinked up at Avena and groaned a bit, taking her hand and pulling himself up under her umbrella and waving dizzily for a moment. "Yes, yes, just...give me a moment." Shaking his head clear, he sighed, wiping some mud off before looking at the woman. "...sorry I suppose. Forgot my umbrella, so I was in a rush to get home."
He fixed his hair before sighing. "Thank you, though. I'm Jay." He smiled weakly at her.

She nodded in response. He seemed to be Noxian which was a bit of a relief to her, but she didn't let her guard down. Once he regained balance and standing on his own feet, she watched him like a hawk. "In a rush to get home over a forgetful moment? I too forgot mine and just went and purchased this before it poured." She studied him a bit more before speaking once more. "My name's Avena... would you like me to walk you home?"

He nodded a bit, glancing up at her umbrella and giving a sigh of relief. "If...it's not pushing myself on you." He glanced away from her. "Thanks Avena. I suppose I owe you a favor." He began to walk, leading her quietly.

She watched him then looked back to her fathers grave once more. "It's not a problem. You don't have to pay me back unless you feel it is a necessity." She walked close to him to try and keep him dry from the rain as well as herself. Stepping on the earthen soil with each step squishing from being overly watered, making sure that her book did not drop into the filthy mud.

He crossed himself quickly. "It's the least I could do, honestly. You name it, I'll give it a shot." He paused before glancing at her book. "What're you reading? Seem to be holding that book a bit close."

"Its a book I'm reading on how to improve on faster movement. I just don't want it to get ruined since I haven't finished it yet." She said as her grip tightened around it. She thought about how she could better improve herself when it came to fights. She wondered what her last year would bring her at training academy. "Okay then, how about a meal then?"

Jay blinked, but sighed after a moment. "Uh...sure. If you want to stay after we get to my house, I could cook something up. People like my cooking...or at least...well, nevermind." He bit his lip but kept walking. "So you're practicing to be a soldier? That's very noble of you, Avena."

"Thank you. But I actually want to be a General of Noxus someday. I'm probably biting off more than I can chew though, however, that won't stop me." She said with a proud smile. She wondered if he would look at her like it was a joke, but her eyes spoke the truth.. She kept close to him so they would get too wet from the rain. "If you'd like ou can hold the umbrella for a bit." She had said, trying to give a bit of distraction as to make sure his mind didn't wander to far or that Avena wanted to see in his eyes to see if she could figure out what was troubling him, even if it was nothing, she was still curious.

He glanced at her, sizing her up briefly, before staring back at the road. "The position of general is a lofty one indeed...you'll need to practice a lot more than what you're doing now if you wish to achieve that rank. Swain often brings up how hard he worked to get to his position."
When she stepped closer and offered to let him hold the umbrella, he locked gaze for a moment with her. If she was any good at reading expressions, she'd see that he had lost his motivation and his love, at least for now. "No, thank you. It's not wise to be giving your belongings to strangers, regardless of the kindness owed. Besides, we're nearly to my apartment." He then turned back to face ahead.

"I don't want to control all of Noxus, I just don't to be looked at like the average girl whose only sole purpose is to kill and have kids then be killed after having kids." She said very bluntly. She sighed a bit knowing the work and trouble she would have to do in order to better herself to even be recognized by the higher officers/ranks. She studied his expression to the best of her ability. "I had not realized." She said with a smile.

"It's not that brutal. At least I don't think, I haven't seen my mother in years." He frowned slightly. "Anyhow, we're here." Jay glanced up the stairs to his apartment duplex, not in bad condition but not in great condition either. "D'you still want that meal, or would you rather I try and rally one of the generals to consider you for promotion? Or both?" He smiled softly for the first time since he'd faceplanted in front of her.
