Natural science, does not simply describe and explain nature; it is part of the interplay between nature and ourselves.

"Well, I should get ready, it's going to be sunset soon," he commented to himself, checking the time on his watch: just over an hour before the Sun would go down, and then he could begin taking his new star charts he would need to give to his students in his Advanced Astrophysics classes later in the term.
For him to be in such a place without any context would seem impossible: rarely would anyone be in the fields, outside the Institute of War itself, and least of all the Revered Inventor outside, all alone, with night-time approaching! Without any explanation, there was no way he would ever be in this place.
Alas, there were reasons aplenty. Astrophysics would resume in the Summer, and Heimerdinger needed the start charts pre-prepared for his students. However, Piltover was much too bright at night-time to be able to see the sky reasonably well, and it just so happened that he was on an errand to the Institute, which included discussions over the limitations of his capability on the Fields of Justice (Only two turrets allowed!? He had trouble fending himself with three, falling to two would make him next to useless!).
And it just so happens that a open field, practically unlighted and nearby the Institute, existed, and with the materials he needed to be able to create the charts, there was no need to wait any longer to perform such a task. And so, it is here that Heimerdinger is preparing to be able to draw up the charts he will need in the future.
The field isn't exactly safe, thanks to the multitude of wild creatures that are known to live in the area, but the Revered Inventor isn't stupid: his famous H-28G Evolution Turrets are all set up around him, forming a formidable firing circle from which a hail of rubber bullets will be able to keep away any creatures with hostile intents. He also brought along a few CH-1 Concussion Grenades, but he has yet to use them, and it doesn't seem likely that today would be an exception.
Of course, as he is very close to the path that goes to and from the Institute - in fact, one of his Turrets is somewhat on the path itself - the chance for a non-hostile visitor to pass by is not impossible, though the Revered Inventor is not concerned with that thought at this very moment; rather, he is focused on moving his telescopic lens to a good position, and getting the drawing board set up so he can get the accurate star charts for which he has come for.
He looked around him, and not seeing anything out of the ordinary, he looked up at the Sun. It was shining brightly, as it always did... but in over an hour, it would set, as it always did as well, and then the stars would be out - the stars for which he has come to record on a board.
"And that should be all set up now! But, I have to create the finals for Organic Chemistry III and Numerical Analysis II by the end of this week... might as well make them now." And with that, he sat down on the small table he set up, and taking out a few smaller sheets of paper and a pen, began to write out the exams that would be used in the above classes.
His mind was now focused solely on creating the exams (after all, they had to be quality finals, as the courses were essentially the classes that determined if you learned anything at all throughout your educational career!), and so if anyone were to come by, now would likely be the best moment, though they couldn't possible know it...

Leona had been walking from the institute back to Targon, taking her usual path... but she noticed something odd; a turret sat in her way. Not just any turret, but the turret that belonged to the Revered Inventor, noticing it from the many times she had seen it on the fields. Unsure if the turret would see her as a threat, she simply walked around it and continued down her path. Coming around the corner, she saw Heimerdinger surrounded by the same turrets, writing on some paper.
"Hello, inventor." Leona simply said, walking forward and stopping a respectable distance away from the turrets. "What brings you out here?" She then inquired. Leona had not spoken much with Heimerdinger outside of the fields... so this could be a start.

Heimerdinger was well underway in writing the final exams, making sure the problems would be varied and challenging, when he heard a feminine voice say hello to him.
Normally, he would not even bother to look up, but there is always a gentlemanly side to a scientist, and so he looked up and turned his head to see Leona approach him.
"Ah, hello, Radiant Dawn," he replied to her first statement. "I am here to draw up some star charts I will need to give to my students in my Astrophysics classes at the Academy in Piltover this Summer, but as the Sun has yet to set - it will so within an hour - I am currently drawing up the final exams for a few other classes I also help teach."
"...if I may ask what are you doing here yourself?" He then asked her in response.

"I was on my way back to Targon.. this is the path I usually take, though seeing one of your turrets, I figured I would stop and say hello." Leona replied, looking down at the little guns wobbling on their stands, every protective of their creator.
The Radiant Dawn looked up towards the Sun and couldn't help but smile, whispering a soft prayer. "Star charts? You remind me of..." Leona stopped herself, the faint image of Diana crossing her mind, her features showing a hint of sadness. "Never mind.." She simply said, looking back to Heimer and smiling. "Anything I can help with?" She simply asked, resting her hands on her hips.

Heimerdinger nodded in response to Leona's reply to his question, then tilted his head at her next comment. He was going to say something, but then he realized he didn't need to ask; he already knew of the relationship, and seeing her expression, he figured it'd be best not to divulge into it. He simply nodded, and was turning back to his work when he heard her other question.
"Well, normally I don't need much help - if any, at all - in handling my designs, but now that you asked... there are a few other things I need to move around and set up before the Sun's set, so if you wish to help, I guess I can repay in some manner..." he trailed off, upon which he got off his seat, and walked over to the cache of supplies he had placed on the ground.
Walking (or waddling, as everyone else saw it) over to a rather large board, he began to slowly pick it up and walk back over with it; the way he was holding it in front of him, to Leona it would look as if she were really seeing a gigantic white-board with tiny Yordle legs.
"If you could help me set this up on the stool next to my table, it'd be a fantastic start and a many thanks from me," Heimerdinger said, the tone sounding a bit grunted, signifying he was somewhat struggling in holding up the boards.

Leona watched the tiny man move and stroll over to the board, and watched him pick it up. Giggling to herself lightly as she saw board with legs, she simply nodded. "Alright." She replied, taking the board from the inventors hands and setting it up where it needed to be set up, standing there beside it afterwards and smiling a little.
"Anything else?" She asked, tilting her head to the side lightly.

Heimerdinger wiped his brow after Leona took the board from him; moving an object of such weight for him was no easy task, and he was sweating a little bit.
Shaking that off, he looked up to face Leona after she asked him.
"Well, there is th- oh, shucks! Where did it go?!" he exclaimed, now noticing he was missing something: his eye-glass. Spinning around, looking around at the nearby ground for it, he shook his head.
"Hm, it appears I have lost my eye-glass around here; sorry to bother you, but could you not walk anywhere? The glass is rather hard to notice, and you could very well step on it and crush it. The glass is important for my telescope, and I don't have a replacement for it." With this, he began to slowly move around the area, making sure he would not accidentally break his missing eye-glass if he were to find it.

Leona nodded and looked around the grass from where she was, not moving at all though; not wishing to break the glass as she watched the little inventor search for it.

A few minutes passed as Heimerdinger scrounged the grassy floor, taking extra care to not accidentally break his glass, when a 'Eureka!' could be heard exclaimed from his area; he jumped up, and there was his eye-glass, in all its transparent glory.
"Oi, thank you for being patient with me," he apologized to Leona as he made his way over to the telescope, upon which he gently slid in the lens into the frontal frame; the telescope was now a usable device.
Heimerdinger looked at Leona again. "Well, there are a few other things I need to do, but it needs to be night-time first, so I guess for now, that's all. Though... I should probably nourish myself before I do anything else now," he said, now noticing a small grumbling in his stomach; he walked (or waddling, take your pick) over to the small case that was laying beside the cache.
Taking his key and opening it, a took out a can of chicken noodle soup, and walking over to the fireplace that was set up some time ago, opened the can, poured it into a pan, and began to cook, holding the pan.
"Do you want some?" He asked Leona, turning his head to the side.
Post by radientdawn on Apr 9, 2013 15:18:18 GMT -5
"No thank you." Leona replied, shaking her head. She wasn't hungry but she did walk over and knelt down at the fire, heating it up with her own heat to help aid in the cooking, brushing her hair from her face with her free hand.
Post by The Revered Inventor on Apr 9, 2013 15:39:49 GMT -5
Heimerdinger nodded in response, then turned to continue cooking. He said thanks to Leona's gesture in keeping the flame strong enough to be able to cook the soup.
A few minutes later, the soup was done, and pouring it into a small cup - so small it would seem surprising all that soup could fit into it - , he sat down near the fireplace and began eating dinner.
He ate quietly, for a few minutes at least, before he decided that it would be best to perhaps know Leona a little bit better.
"So... how have the summoners treated you as of late?" He asked her.
Post by radientdawn on Apr 9, 2013 16:28:11 GMT -5
Leona sighed and brushed some hair from her face. "The usual." She replied, shaking her head slightly. "Though, being forced to run into a tower over and over again gets old during a match..." Leona let out a little sigh and looked up at the setting Sun. "And I am not allowed to see Diana at the institute... things got out of hand the last time.." Leona said, though she sighed away her feelings and looked back at Heimer, smiling. "How about you?"
Post by The Revered Inventor on Apr 9, 2013 16:51:12 GMT -5
Heimerdinger listened to Leona's explanation, silently sipping his soup, and nodded at the end, before putting down the bowl and replying.
"Well, to say the least, a tad bit frustration, so I might say," he began. "Once again, the Institute is considering reducing my capabilities on the fields: this time, lowering the number of Evolution turrets I can place at a given time by one, from three to two," he said with a grimace, looking over to one of his nearby turrets set up for protection, "as well as lower the effects my concussion grenade can do."
"I sometimes wonder why they do this; if they accepted me as I was when I came for my judgement, why would they dampen my capabilities now? It seems almost like they're having second thoughts about my stay in the league now... but alas, not much I can do about it; Piltover wants me to stay, and I still have a point to prove to others..." he trailed off; he guessed Leona knew what point it was: that he was the smartest Champion in the league, but he didn't want to come off as arrogant here.
"...as to my summoning schedule, it is reasonable, although I find that I am increasingly summoned only when the summoners know the other team's summoners are bringing up a champion I am seen as a 'counter' to, which as of late, interesting enough, happens to be-" he was about to say the name before cutting himself off; he remembered who he was talking to, and he knew that saying the name might cause for more concern than he wanted, but at the same time, it almost seemed that it was an obligation for him to say it.
And so, he muttered the name under his breath, just loud enough for Leona to make it out:

Leona frowned slightly at the mention of her other... shaking her head. "You do not have to act like she is taboo to me." Leona replied, looking down at the ground. "I am fine, really." Leona then said, looking back to Heimer with a smile, however fake it seemed.
Post by The Revered Inventor on Apr 9, 2013 21:12:14 GMT -5
Heimerdinger could only stare and blink at Leona's response, not exactly re-assured by her evidently fake smile... he decided it might be best to move to a different topic.
"So, ah... I, suppose this might already be an obvious answer, but I suppose you wouldn't happen to know anything of what could be called 'scientific?'" He asked her, hoping to be able to move on.
