Titus willingly nods at Xerath as if the Magus Ascendant is the master and the cosmic admiral is the student. However, Titus expects the shield to last. Would Xerath allow himself to be burned by searing flames of cosmic energy? No.
He has already made his first move. The game of chess as begun between the two mages. Now he waits for Xerath to make his response as Titus slowly walks to the middle of the field.

Xerath studies Titus's actions as he slowly walks up to the center; Titus has certainly shown that he is capable of magic, but just how capable? This, he would need to find out.
Seeing Titus apparently deciding to wait for his move, he simply takes an arcane missile - the standard attack he is allowed to apply on the fields as his 'normal attack' - and prepares to throw it.
"Block this missile," he states simply, upon which he throws it at the Admiral, looking to see how he responds.
Titus opens up his palms and catches the speeding arcane missle locked on the cosmic yordle. Energy rushes from his arm to his entire body as Titus absorbs the energy and lessens the impact to the point where it is negligible. He clenches his fist for a moment and gives himself a quiet sigh. He then eyes the Magus Ascendant again, trying to calculate his infinite possibilities and the possible counters Titus can muster. For now, his stance is defensive...

Xerath observes that his opponent - or at this point, student - has successfully held off his arcane missile. He nods, as if approving Titus's method.
Upon the remnants of the missile decaying, he takes another charge, but this time he spins it around his right hand.
As he continues to spin, another arcane missile forms, floating off to some place over him. And another. And another.
At the end, some 7 arcane missiles are floating off, all shaped in the same manner as the one in his hand. He stops spinning the missile, and then looks at Titus again.
"There are seven, and all will approach you from a different direction. Block all seven," Xerath states, and the next moment he lets the missile in his hand dash off towards the Yordle; the rest follow suit, though halfway they scatter and surround the Yordle before homing in on him.

In the unknown, yet very near, future
It was an interesting request: what had begun as simple testing with real weapons had culminated into an agreement for a spar. It was certainly an interesting outcome, but for the sake of wanting to get the best explainable experience - and for a want to finally perhaps get in the focus of a spar again - Jon found himself back into the grounds he had occupied so often back for the past few years.
However, unlike the other times, he swapped out his trusty assis-bots - which made him hesitate before having them stay back home - for something which had just recently completed research: the Mark I Arclite Powered Infantry Armor.
The details of its construction and perks were yet to be revealed, and it was still a 1st-issue prototype... but he had come to test it a bit, and found it nothing short of revolutionary. If there were only a way to mass produce it; from his friends, he had learned that such a suit was incredibly difficult to produce, and no surprise would arise out of there only being enough suits to count on one hand.
In the meantime, the sparring agreements had to be met: He would employ this special armor system, and a few of his own hextech firearms, using rubber bullets of course. His opponent would be mounted - a unique condition that made him look forward to the spar - and employ more deadly weapons. Of course, if anything truly got out of hand, there were summoners to ensure that there would be no true troubles.
He looked at his choice of armament: a six-shot revolver and a now standard-issue gear-action, 8-shot rifle. He wasn't so sure weapons designed to operate at a distance would fare so well against a mounted warrior, but the real test was the armor and what it provided... and the want to be in a fight again.
Entering the designated arena, he found a tree outside the boundary line to wait under, and taking off his helmet, examined his weapons to be sure that they would function, as well as double-checking his ammunition that they were rubber.

Hilde arrived upon the sparring grounds upon her mount, a demacian war horse. The steed wore barding to protect itself, and Hilde was clad in her riding uniform, breastplate and tabard, flying her city state's colors. She rode up to Jon, helmet in hand, her face slightly enthusiastic. The Captain was already in her 40s, but seemed much younger, causing many to guess her to be a less-than experienced warrior.
"I am eager to see the results of this trial combat. Test your armor and trinkets against me then, and the skill of arms and warfare refined over a century of battle." Demacians, always so boastful. She saluted Jon with her cavalry saber, while taking a good, quick look at his equipment. Heavy armor, firearms.
She went to her side of the battlefield to make preparations, her squires listening to her requests and outfitting her with a kite shield, a mace and a lance. She was equipping herself to counter what she would expect a heavily armored and range-equipped opponent would be like.
Once ready, she raised her lance in salute to express her eagerness to begin.

Jon saw his opponent arrive; the usual pomp and circumstance that accompanied any Demacian leader, he figured. In spite of her apparent physical youth, he figured she couldn't have been that young to so skillfully hit him during testing. He wasn't surprised: at 39, Jon also could have been seen as younger than he truly was, though his armor would certainly make him seem so. When she addressed him, he replied.
"I can say the same, miss. As to 'arms and trinkets'... well, let's not be so assertive here: it's not like I'm coming into this with zero context or background." A small glint came off of his eye as he finished speaking. He returned Hilde's salute with a hand salute of his own, then returned to his side under the tree to prepare for the spar.
"Rifle... gear oiled, locked and loaded."
"Revolver... wheel set, chambers prepped."
"Rounds... confirmed rubber. Working condition."
"Armor... Thermo-fusion Arc lite core at normal, hydraulic systems active, helmet... activated." At that last one, he replaced the helmet onto his head, and hearing the 'click!' had his sight return to normal within the helmet.
As he got himself mentally prepared, he examined what Hilde would employ: a kite shield, mace, a lance. An odd combination, but one he figured as used to combat what he would use.
As Hilde made to one side of the arena to her marked spot, Jon went to his, and returned Hilde's salute with a rifle salute of his own, using a shot. Putting back in a rubber bullet to replace the expended shot, he then moved into a combat stance, and called out to her.
"Ladies First."

Hilde spurred her mount forward... slowly veering to the side. Across the arena the warhorse's hooves thundered, as the Rider's course ran sideways, shield facing Jon. Hilde would come in swift though prudent; she refused to make it so easy as to come at the rifleman in a straight line.
She shielded herself with the fierce lion of demacia emblazoned upon her shield, and rode in fast in a feint charge, to trick Jon to waste ammunition on a side-ways moving target. Though a swift riding horseman was a large target as well...
Rise forth, riders With blade, spear and fire
deliver justice upon a steed of wrath; the red dawn light our path!
To mine enemy's end I ride, to my king victory and pride
To the end of our days and hopes, to the moment evil does close!
Sing the last praise, our swords unsheathing crash into the enemy, their bodies breaking
Ride out our Ruin, Ride unto Glory, Ride for Demacia!-Cavalier's Creed

Jon normally would have his rifle out, but he knew here that this was no random cavalry; she was someone who might not employ orthodox tactics, and he was aware.
To this effect, he promptly put away his rifle and took out his revolver, gripping it in both hands, aimed at Hilde, as she charged him. However, he noticed it wasn't a straight charge... this might be a feint.
He guessed correctly; as he saw her move to one side, he shifted over to the opposite side, managing to avoid contact on her first run.
Wheeling around, he came to see Hilde riding along the sidelines, as if daring him to try to hit a sideways moving target.
He was a good enough of a shot to want to try, but he knew that at the range he'd be firing at he wouldn't be producing an effect. If he wanted to get any meaningful shots, he needed to bait her to come in dangerously close... possibly even dismount her.
But for now, she wasn't trying anything risky, and so neither would he. He simply kept pace with her movements, keeping a keen eye on her weapon hand...

After a short while, the Rider determined Jon to be wise enough to recognize a faint. She sighed, wishing she brought a few javelins... She switches over to her lance then makes an abrupt turn- and galloped at full speed towards Jon. Since she couldn't skirmish him, especially not with that particularly thick looking armor, she decided to force a decisive charge!
Jon would not face down a swift moving, armored fighting machine- a Demacian warhorse and her rider, barreling at him at full speed. The blunt lance was very much aimed for him... needless to say, this wasn't an attack to tough it out against.

Jon kept his eyes steady on Hilde; she seemed to be awfully patient...
...only at that moment to see her steer hard into him and make a straight charge for it.
Though she wouldn't be able to see it under his helmet, Jon smiled in an expecting fashion: he hoped this would happen.
As she reached the halfway point, Jon began to quickly side-shuffle to the left... and then at the same time, moved up closer vertically.. He wasn't going to risk a collision, but if Hilde wanted to hit him, she'd need to turn hard... hard enough to have to choose between losing momentum and losing balance.
What she would do in the interim would decide Jon's next action; as he continued to shift leftward while moving forward, revolver still aimed directly at the rider.

The Rider adjusted and veered towards, displaying uncommon skill at directing her mount on sharp turns. Daisy's hooves stirred up the dust and dirt- The Rider was leaning a bit far though, and came in on a curve, to cancel out Jon's movement in a decisive charge. Though this meant she now exposed her lance and thus her un-shielded side to Jon.
She came in, maintaining eye contact with her prey, intent on striking home with her lance. She would attempt to reach him despite the risk... shouting the ever common battle cry. "DEMACIAAA!"

Jon saw her cover the distance while making the turn... but exposing her side.
This was what he had wanted.
However, it meant the lance would surely hit him at some angle, so it was a choice between trading direct hits and simply landing hard grazes on each other.
He chose the latter. The moment before the lance would hit him, he shouted something in his native tongue, before shifting left and taking a shot aimed directly at her lance hand.
"Duìyú wèilái!"
He heard the rubber 'ping!' to indicate he had hit, but the more pressing matter was the lance; a strong glancing blow, it hit him directly above his right kidney, and though the armor was easily strong enough to protect the user, the force still went through.
Jon recoiled slightly at the blow, the force induced into his right side throwing him off a bit... and making him beginning to feel he might hurl.

The lance shattered upon impact with Jon, and Hilde's hand reflexively let go as it was shot. The strike elicited a shout of pain, though her gauntlets mitigated the pain somewhat. would keep her weapon hand numb for a short while, so while that recovered, She pressed the attack and compelled her horse turn around, then forward to close the gap, intent on trampling Jon.
The steed, bred for strength and aggression, neighed loudly as it brought its ironclad hooves to trample the armored medic, keeping him constantly harried if he wasn't sent sprawling to the ground.

Jon had figured Hilde would try to use her horse against him, but he didn't think she'd get her horse to outright try to trample him.
This was unacceptable to the highest degree, and so he did something he would never do using actual ammunition: managing to get to the horse just as the horse had gotten to him, he took the revolver in his left hand, and sent a round right into its right eye.
The round would bounce off, but the impact would almost assuredly cause the horse incredible pain, at least distracting Hilde in the meantime. Jon backed off, getting back his balance and his focus for the moment.
In the momentary breather he got, he put away his revolver and drew out his gear rifle, though he didn't fire... not until he was sure that Hilde would try something next.
