The slightest half-smile. The glint of crimson eyes. The D5 knight had only two feasible options: to retreat to safety beside the its queen, making all of its endeavors thus far meaningless, or to advance upon the Chemist's knight, dealing a blow to the white army, but sealing its own fate. "Of one's allies, this is true," the Grand General offered: a phrase that seemed to simultaneously explain his previous derision and warn against his ally's further furtive planning. Deciding upon the latter, he switched his knight with Singed's C3 piece, claiming the white knight as his own and leaving his own unit as a sacrifice in its place.
"Two pieces that can move in interesting ways. A clown and a rat. Both skilled in the art of stealth. Both colored to my specifications. One a spy and a thief, the other a scapegoat." Bushy brows shot up as Swain gauged his opponent's reaction to this proposition.

“Colored to your specifications? Impressive I know firsthand how much of a joker those two can be if you have “tamed” them then you are more frightening as an individual than I thought.” Singed took the knight with his queen. “Now you have already told me that you have plans for every place. What are your plans for Piltover?”

The general offered a polite half-smile in acknowledgement of his opponent's compliment. Singed, it seemed, was finally beginning to understand the scope of the grand design--and to ask the right questions. Swain slid his queen across the board to E7 in careful preparation for his next moves.
"Many things will soon befall the city of progress, and Progress is one of them." Swain lifted his chin, eyes flashing purposefully as he continued, "There is a name I think you know. Let's begin there, with Marcellus Hollaway. I want to know what you know of his dealings, his standing in Piltover, his temperament."

“Marcellus…an interesting theme, let’s see on the outside is an outstanding and law abiding citizen of Piltover calm and somewhat of a loner but enough charisma to make others follow him and his ideals.” “On his dark side he is a ruthless crime lord whose influence has extended on the low towns of all of Valoran he is power hungry manipulative and cruel and above all he wouldn’t trust his shadow with anything but a knight on his back and another on his groin.” He then moves his h pawn 2 squares to menace the black Bishop. “But he is intelligent enough to know not to bite more that he can chew and to alliance with others in order to achieve his objectives he also has a strange loyalty to his alliances if they are mutually beneficial.”

Without hesitation, Swain withdrew the threatened bishop out of reach, to H6. "Ah, that much is readily apparent. What I mean is: personally. Does his organization interfere with yours? Yours with his? Is he personable? Presentable?"
Bushy brows shot up, wrinkling the Grand General's forehead. "Is he, say, fit for public office?" Beatrice stared Singed down, seeming to watch the Chemist for his reaction to this implication.

“Let’s see” said Singed thinking deeply about the few encounters that he had personally with Marcellus and the many their organizations had over the years. “He is calculating and can put a great front capable of fooling almost anyone that doesn’t know about his business and from what I know his façade is perfect in Piltover.” “With proper support and interest on his part he would be able to goo really deep into the government of his native city and control it without it realizing it.” Singed boldly puts his remaining Knight on E5 as a preparation to put it on G4 one play later. “So how will we sell this particular wooden horse?”
Post by The Master Tactician on Mar 28, 2013 13:34:04 GMT -5
Ah, but the next move was obvious. His face a mask of perfect polished poise, Swain nudged his pawn forward one square, creating a path of retreat for the bishop, the fate of which would have been sealed without this foresight. "We will elect him to parliament. The first phase of many." He folded his scarred hands on the table before him, beside the small collection of Singed's white pieces.
Singed's metaphor elicited a sinister smile, which crept slowly over gnarled features, twisting Swain's visage into some sadistic semblance of satisfaction. A wooden horse. The Chemist had clearly inferred the gist of this plan, and his insight pleased the Grand General immensely. This approval flashed in his eyes as he continued, "The easiest way? Is to sway public opinion. We make him a hero. We find him a villain. We give him the tools to assume the role. Simple, yet effective." The Master Tactician's crimson gaze flickered out over the city, over the balcony. "Have you heard of 'C?'"
Post by The Mad Chemist on Mar 28, 2013 23:33:58 GMT -5
“C?” Asked Singed with a light frown on his face “I know of every single thing that occurs on Zaun but my capabilities of collecting information on Piltover are limited I know what the many know about this character. He is right now more of an urban legend that an individual tell me do you have information on such elusive figure?” He moved his knight to the place he had already planned even if Swain had already taken that movement into account it provided a strong left front. “However there will be resistance towards Marcellus even if he wins the heart of the many with some smoke and mirrors and if he starts with a front in which he is opposed with the Zaun-Noxus cooperation towards his city and then changes it will rise even more suspicion than if he starts like a wide eyed idealists that believes that the three cities can cooperate to create a better future.”

"Hm," the Grand General pursed his lips behind his shroud, drawing back his bishop to G7, just as planned. "I ask after C because he is, as you say, a legend. The prime catch, if you will. The ultimate prize. But if he cannot be obtained, there are others." Crimson eyes lingered over the chessboard deep in thought. "And what does not exist already can be contrived."
A flash of purpose lit upon his gnarled features. His voice lowered, "That is your part to play. You know what I mean, don't you, Singed? A few of your... more subtly altered subjects will suffice to terrorize the city of progress, hm? Choose them wisely; it would not do to indict yourself to your future allies."
Swain chuckled, a wheezing cacophony of grim laughter, before he addressed Singed's concern. "Oh, he will be the most upstanding citizen. The picture of Piltovian ideals. A protector. A man who acts upon his morals. A man who believes in a shining future in which we all work side-by-side for the greater good." He smiled slyly, "Surely you did not think differently of me."
Post by The Mad Chemist on Mar 29, 2013 0:29:36 GMT -5
“Yes I do not think differently that is the only reason that I agree to follow you after all our ideals coincide and your methods work.” As singed said those words the curves on his eyebrows would reveal a slight smile “Even here on this game you have shown me that you are my level if not superior on this “battlefield” I could almost feel sad that we are on the same side instead of battling one another but alas more than fun want I want is benefit and the most benefit comes from being on your side as yet one of your many hands to control the board.” After saying this words Singed felt silent admiring the marvelous complexity that the board had reached he moved his hand to his chin in deep thought on how to move next after all any movement could break the balance of power be it on favor or against the one moving the piece. “The attacks can be arranged easily making them so no suspicion of Zaun is raised?” Singed tone of voice was almost cheerful when he said those last words as if he was enjoying the whole idea of raising some havoc on such a peaceful and stagnant place “I will enjoy the challenge you put on my table Swain and for C from most of the exploits attributed to this character I would conclude that he/she is indeed real but as elusive as his legend says I will try to move some influences on the dark side of things to gather as much info as I can after hall a thief needs to sell his stolen goods somewhere to live of his profession and someone like see can only be a “pro” as some would say.” He moved his pawn one square invading black territory. “Now I would like to ask what level of “trouble” would you like Piltover to have and when?”

Swain advanced his far-left pawn two spaces, now a direct threat to Singed's overzealous knight. "Preemptive strikes are rarely the wisest," he offered in echo of the illustration provided by the board. "We should be able to set Marcellus up in parliament with a completely clean campaign--if he is as capable as you imply. And then?"
A smirk twisted the Grand General's gnarled features into something smug, sinister, Machiavellian. "That is when the curtain falls on act one and opens on act two. When Marcellus uses his influence to ensure that Piltover accepts Zaun's help against its dire threats."
Post by The Master Tactician on Mar 30, 2013 20:04:14 GMT -5
"You see, for Zaun to offer aid to Piltover of its own free will turns the rivalry on its head. Elitism dissipates, to some degree, in times of dire need. People forget their differences." A black pawn inched forward to C5: a sacrifice willingly given.
From his shoulder, Beatrice nipped at the general's thinning hair in an avian display of affection. "And when crisis strikes, refusal of Zaun's assistance will hardly be an option. But for now, what I need is information."
Post by The Mad Chemist on Mar 31, 2013 23:40:48 GMT -5
“Hmm…yes a well though plan” Singed then took the c5 pawn with his own pawn the b one. Now the b pawn of Swain was being menaced by 2 pieces. “And when all the pieces fall into place a good deal of land will be under your influence without having to engage in a single battle”
Post by The Master Tactician on Apr 2, 2013 3:14:36 GMT -5
A pawn for a pawn, an even exchange. The general claimed Singed's aggressive C5 pawn for his own, clearing the board for more moves to be made, more obstacles to be eliminated, for the onward march of progress. Singed's revelation about the Grand Scheme elicited a polite nod from The Master Tactician, the slightest of sly smiles.
"That is the idea, Singed. Why fight unnecessary battles, when all that one desires is ripe for the taking? One needs only to extend his hand and grasp it." Swain's expression darkened as he took in his accomplice's gaunt face, as gleaming red eyes locked with gleaming yellow in assessment of their sincerity. "I look to you to be that grasping hand, Chemist, and many rings shall adorn your fingers."
