Okay! I think we have enough people to start a Pokemon thread! Uhh...so I decided to make it an anime-style battle and such. Gangplank takes the theme of water type but I dunno about Nami.
I'll make a new thread in 7-8 hours from this current moment that I'm typing for. I'll start the non-canon PokeLoL world today!

Gives Juice a Mach Punch fistbump.
Well, looking forwards to our fight, champ. But good luck beating me.
P.S: Should I have a separate team for unrestrained fights? Everyone knows that if they tried hard enough, the gym leaders would be (nearly) as unstoppable as the elite four (Like Cheren in B2/W2), but they limit themselves for gym battles so that people can actually get into the Pokemon league. I don't want to send out my gym team and get KOed by one of Veigar's grunts. :/
Well one doesn't need a Gym team. In my opinion, the point of the Gym Leader is to test a trainer so that they have the resources to take on the Elite Four. It doesn't necessarily mean to win; it just necessarily means that they just have to test the trainer. In other words, the Gym Leaders can go easy just to see if the trainer has the needs to win.

Even if their attacks are "supper effective" vs everyone, they use noob and Low lvls pokemons like:

Oh, so Water is taken? I guess I could use Grass types or Bug types maybe, if only because Jayce picked Normal types and unless Vi is Piltover's Gym Leader, I can't use Normal types I think. (Of course, I don't mind it if Jayce is the Gym Leader either.)
Jaykoboy and I have been talking about how Pokemon battles here on Maelstrom will go. At the same time, we were discovering the rules of ASB (anime-style battle). After some deliberation and understanding of how ASB will play out, we finally came up with the rules on how the battles will play out.
1. A Pokemon starts out with 100 HP and 100 Energy. A Pokemon faints when either the HP or Energy reaches zero.
This is going to be a simple way to measure how close a Pokemon is to fainting. How to calculate attacks? It's relatively simple. Take the base damage of an attack, divide it by ten, and round up. An example is Body Slam. It's Base Damage is 85. Divide it by ten and round up and you get a total damage of 9 HP. Super effective moves and critical-hit moves will deal double the damage. Not very effective moves will deal half the damage.
Let's say that Surf is used against a foe Pokemon.
Against a pure Fire type, it will deal a total of 20 HP.
Now Surf is used against a Fire and Ground type Pokemon (Camerupt). Now it deals 40 HP damage.
But what if it's a critical hit against a Camerupt? Including the type advantages and critical hit, now it deals 8x the damage, making it 80 HP damage.
But if Surf is used on a pure Grass Type Pokemon, then it will deal half the damage, which is 5 HP.
And if Surf is used again on a Grass and Water-type Pokemon, then it will deal a quarter of a damage, a roundup to 3 HP damage.
And this is another interesting rule I saw on ASB. Damage cannot go below 4 HP.
2. We're following Maelstrom RP battle. And here is the reason:
If ASB is strictly followed, this is how the battle will turn out -
VI'S POST Dragonite (F) HP: 100 Energy: 100 Ability: Multiscale Stats: +2 SpAtt Moves: Dragonite, use Hyper Beam , then Dragon Pulse.
JAYCE'S POST Dugtrio (M) HP: 100 Energy: 100 Ability: Sand Force Stats: +1 Def Moves: Dugtrio, use Sandstorm, and then Earthquake. Sandstorm~Earthquake
And once the two state their commands, the referee decides the action. And now you see why we are not following much of ASB. It's boring. Simple as that. We're keeping the HP/Energy rules just to measure a Pokemon's health and the rest will be Maelstrom RP battle. In a nutshell, battles are just going to play out how we LoL roleplayers play it out. Think of it as the Sparring Grounds in the official forums.

Okay, from reading the battle between Vi and Jayce; I think the system we're using is a little shallow.
I will propose a few additions, tell me what you think:
Easy Fixes - Including STAB. For those that don't know, STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) means that if a pokémon utilizes a move that shares a type with him (EG: Hitmonchan using Close Combat) that move gets a 50% boost in power.
- Including at least 1 ability per pokémon.
Medium Fixes - Pseudo-utilizing Smogon's CAP ASB stats (found here). My suggestion would be to utilize them like this:
* Speed determines who goes first. For every 1 point of speed a pokémon has over its opponent, he gains an additional flat 10% chance to dodge attacks, and to connect attacks against the foe.
* Attack and Special Attacks increase the damage from physical and special attacks by their value, respectively.
* Defense and Special Defense decrease damage taken from physical and special attacks by their value, respectively.
* HP remains as it is, except not all pokémon have 100 HP.
Hard Fixes - Smogon's CAP ASB, but integrating more roleplaying elements. This, sadly, would require us to make detailed sheets for each of our pokémon; but the combat would be a lot more engaging.
Pls vote on what you would actually use and feedback <3

Sorry bruh but it's painfully obvious that you haven't played CAP ASB.
How is it any more boring than "USE CIRCLE THROW" "DODGE AND FIRE HYPER BEAM"?
Also, noone says we have to follow the system to a T. This is the roleplaying forum and as such, we should be, duh, roleplaying during battles.
DOUBLE EDIT:
You can find all the system's rules and intricacies HERE. As you can see, it's very detailed; and certainly not the "hurr use move 1 then move" thing you make it out to be. The system has plans for actions such as dodging, taking cover, counter-attacking, preparing actions, etc etc; pretty much like a table top RPG. Except, with pokemans.

I just realized...
Titus, have you been factoring Hitmonchan's Iron Fist into me and Juice's fight? It'd cause my Mach Punch, Ice Punch, and (unused) Fire Punch to do 20% bonus damage. :/
